X4E brings together early-career and senior researchers who use experiments to study environmental problems. We particularly welcome submissions at the design stage, when feedback from peers is most useful and hardest to get elsewhere. Projects with first data or a draft are equally welcome.

There will be single session talks and a poster session with drinks, plus time to talk during coffee breaks and social activities. We are also planning an interactive session with a short expert input followed by a workshop-style discussion. The topic will be chosen based on participant interest.

We are planning one facilitated session with a short expert input, then workshop-style discussion.

Agentic AI in science What AI agents can and cannot do in an empirical workflow, from literature work and coding to analysis. Where they save time, where they quietly introduce errors, and what this means for reproducibility and for how we referee each other's work. Funding and academic careers Third-party funding and the unwritten rules of the job. Which schemes fit which career stage, what reviewers actually look for in a proposal, how to read a job ad and a hiring committee, and how the publishing game works in practice: picking a journal, writing to editors, handling revisions and desk rejections. Science communication Getting experimental results to policymakers, practitioners, and the press without overclaiming. Writing for non-specialists, working with press offices and NGOs, and what to do when a finding is more uncertain than the headline suggests.
